Millwall fans have rallied around goalkeeper Dave Martin after his FA Cup error cost his side a trip to Wembley.
Martin’s 94th minute mistake from Solly March’s long free-kick levelled the tie deep in injury time before Brighton went on to win the contest on penalties.
The former MK Dons keeper, 33, took to social media to apologise to the Lions faithful soon after the blunder.
Gutted about what happened today and want to apologise to everyone at Millwall, the fans were superb as always and created an unbelievable atmosphere at The Den. I’m so sorry I let you down and I will come back stronger

Opposing goalkeeper and penalty shootout hero for Brighton Matt Ryan says he spoke to the Martin following the tie.
“It happens,” he said.
“I told him that one moment does not define him.
“He was solid all game apart from that.
“He seemed to have plenty of character himself.
“You have got to learn from your mistakes and see what you can do to not let it happen again.
“Aside from that he had a great game and I am sure he will be better for his experience.”
Martin’s honest admission post-match endeared himself to fans and they were quick in letting him know where they stood.
Head up David you was class today 💙

Yes you made a mistake but did great until then and made saves some wouldn't have, to old now Dave to sulk head up on to Leeds

It’s a team effort. Nothing you should blame yourself for. I thought you had a great game and really hope we see more of you down The Den. Hold your head high. We’re a little club compared to most but we can still give them a run for their money (which they all have much more of)

One of those things Dave, even the greatest keepers make mistakes, you will come back stronger from it. You are just human like the rest of us.

You’re a keeper, shit happens and shit will happen again, shame it was so high profile, but stay strong and even though I don’t have a fondness for Millwall, they have proper fans so they will back you

Would be so easy to put the blame on Harris, Martin, Romeo, Ferguson or Cooper but fuck that. Brilliant cup run and can’t fault the attitude or effort of anyone. Proud of you Millwall 💙 #Millwall

And support wasn’t only coming from The Den, but from fans of fierce rivals.
Thought you played really well. Mistakes are part of learning, you were unfortunate with yours today. Best of luck for the season, from a Spurs fan.

This is what a professional footballer caring looks like! Fair play fella... not seen the mistake as don’t watch football at such a level but do massively tespect a player taking responsibility! Good luck mate!
