Millwall were whiskers away from securing a place in a FA Cup Semi Final, but late goals from Jurgen Locadia and Solly March wiped away their two goal lead.

Brighton then went onto to win 5-4 on penalties after misses from Mahlon Romeo and Jake Cooper ended Millwall’s honourable run in the FA Cup.

Here is how The Newsshopper rated Neil Harris’ men:

David Martin – 5

Made a couple of impressive saves early on, but he was at fault for Brighton’s equalizer.

Mahlon Romeo – 7

Bombed forward in the early stages, pegging back Bernardo back into his own half. Defensively, the full-back did not look out of place as he hustled and bustled Jahanbakhsh.

Alex Pearce – 8

Scored his first goal for the Lions, and what a game to do it in. He was head and shoulders above any other player in the box as his header managed to avoid everyone on the line.

For what the center-half lacks with age he makes up for with experience. He ushered the back four into line and got his body in front of some dangerous balls.

Jake Cooper – 7

His towering figure made even Glenn Murray look small at times after he won nearly every aerial duel against the veteran striker. Missed the penalty that mattered.

Shane Ferguson – 6

Despite being slotted in at left-back, the Northern Ireland international made a blistering 30 meter run before being chopped down by Montoya. Carried out his defensive duties with real resilience before being shown a straight red card for a stamp on Lewis Dunk.

Jed Wallace – 8

His flamboyant style of play injected fear into Brighton’s back four as his direct runs down the right hand side made him Millwall’s most dangerous player in the first half. Brighton failed to catch on in the second half as one of those darting runs ended in O’Brien slotting home from six-yards. Outstanding performance.

Ryan Tunnicliffe – 6

Played the furthest forward of the midfield three and relished the terrible weather conditions. Dug deep and pressed well.

Ryan Leonard – 6

After handing over his anchoring duties to Williams, he was given a license to roam and press the Brighton midfield.

Shaun Williams – 7

Making a return to the side since that terrible Bolton performance, the midfielder’s rustiness showed early on. However, he made up for his early blunders with a sublime corner to set up Alex Pearce for the opener.

Aiden O’Brien – 8

Tracked back well to help Ferguson tame Knockaert. Showed composure to slot in Millwall’s second. Substituted late on.

Lee Gregory - 7

Came close to opening the scoring after his looping effort crashed onto the wrong side of the net. He produced a pitch-perfect pass to slip Jed Wallace in for a one on one with the keeper. Run himself into the ground thereafter.

Substitutions:

James Meredith – 5

Allowed March to cut in to set up Locadia for Brighton’s first goal. Forced Ryan into making a good save with a low drilled effort during extra time.

Steve Morison – 6

Came on late and slotted his penalty away with ease.

Shaun Hutchinson – N/A
