Charlton played out a goalless draw at a windy Memorial Stadium.
The point edged the Addicks closer to a top-six finish with Peterborough in seventh falling to defeat.
Lee Bowyer's men thought they had taken the lead on the stroke of half time, but Josh Cullen's effort was ruled offside.
Charlton dominated but the point means they are now ten points clear of sixth placed Doncaster Rovers.

Lyle Taylor went close early on but he saw his goalbound flick thwarted by his own standing leg.
The Addicks were dominating the game and on 26 minutes they were denied the opener by a goal-line clearance from Gas skipper Lockyer.
Anfernee Dijksteel's cross found full-back Ben Purrington but his shot was hacked clear from the line.
Rovers were quiet for the majority of the opening half, but eight minutes before the break they forced Dillon Phillips into a fine save.
Phillip threw himself at Jonson Clarke-Harris free-kick brilliantly to tip the strike behind .
Charlton were denied the lead at the break when Cullen tapped home from close range but the flag was raised for offside just before the break.
The visitors continued on the attack after the break but they struggled to create any clear opportunities in such poor conditions,
Cullen and Rovers’ Ollie Clarke traded long-range efforts in a largely forgettable spell in the second period.
Bowyer's men were then left thanking the linesman who ruled out Cullen's first half strike as he disallowed Alex Jakubiak effort for the same offence five minutes from time.
The game petered out and despite Taylor just missing out on getting on the end of Joe Aribo's cross, the Addicks go into the international break unbeaten in seven.
