Practice makes perfect according to matchwinner Ben Reeves.

Reeves’ headed home Lyle Taylor’s cross in Charlton’s 2-1 win over Burton Albion and he admits his heading ability is not something he's renowned for.

“I’d never scored with my head before I came to Charlton, I’ve scored three now”” said the former MK Dons man.

“I’m used to scoring most of my goals from outside the box and it seems to have changed now.

“As long as it’s helping the team that’s the main thing.”

The 27-year-old revealed he had been working on that aspect of his game with the Charlton coaching staff.

“Jacko (Johnnie Jackson) was doing some stuff with George Lapslie the other day and I asked to join in.

“It was pretty much exactly what the goal was, timing your run into the box and getting your head on it.

“I just thought I knew I had to do my best to get in the back stack.

“Fortunately, the defence gave me a yard or two of space so I almost had a good sight of it all the way through, and obviously it’s a big forehead as well!”

The victory further enhanced The Addicks’ play-off credentials as the gap between themselves in fifth and seventh placed Peterborough is now 11 points, but despite the cushion, Reeves said they won’t be taking their foot off the gas as they hope to pounce on any slip-ups from Barnsley in second, eight points ahead.

“We aren’t going to give up, none of our boys are like that in the squad.

“The most important thing for us is to keep winning, and if that gets us in there (top two), brilliant, if not, we’ll need that momentum going into the play-offs.”

Charlton travel to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
