Scott Dann is “bitterly disappointed” with Crystal Palace’s derby defeat to Brighton, but insists they must forget about it quickly as their big FA Cup clash with Watford looms.
James Tomkins was caught out by Lewis Dunk’s raking pass as former Palace striker Glenn Murray took it first time to fire in his 100th league goal for Brighton.
Although Luka Milivojevic would convert his ninth goal this season, it was Anthony Knockaert’s stunning strike which condemned the hosts to defeat.
Speaking after the game, Dann said: “To lose that is really disappointing with it being a derby and the atmosphere we had at the stadium.
“It is tough to take, like any defeat, especially when we felt we should have done a lot better with the amount of possession we had.
“I think we played very well today but, at the same time, the two goals that we’ve conceded they’ve never had many more chances than that. That makes it more difficult to take.
“I think we controlled the game for most of it, we just couldn’t quite move the ball quick enough to hurt them in possession.
“We have to dust ourselves down and move on very quickly, because although we are disappointed we have still got a lot of work to do.”
Cardiff’s win over West Ham means Palace are now just five points above the drop with eight games to go.
After their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Watford, they host relegation-threatened Huddersfield before facing a tough run-in against Newcastle, Manchester City, Arsenal and Everton.
There is focus on securing Premier League status for next season, but victory at Vicarage Road could ignite hopes of a trip back to the FA Cup final for the second time in three years.
When asked how important it to put the derby defeat aside and focus on the FA Cup, Dann added: “We have to. To have the previous couple of results we have had, especially away from home and the really good result we had last week, we came into this full confidence.
“We wanted to get another three points on the board.
“Today hasn’t gone to plan. We have a day off tomorrow and then we come in Monday ready to work hard leading into the game.”
