Igor Vetokele’s last minute strike gave Charlton a crucial three points at Kingsmeadow where Lee Bowyer watched from the stands for the majority of the second half.
A first half strike from on-loan Watford forward Michael Folivi was cancelled out by Naby Sarr’s excellent free-kick shortly after the manger’s dismissal.
Sitting in the stand for something he said to referee Chris Kavanagh, Bowyer would’ve been impressed by their second half turn-around in a tense affair where both sides knew that three points were crucial.
As Charlton maintained their play-off credentials, Wally Downes men were left rooted to the foot of the table staring relegation face-on despite taking the lead.
Early Warning
Downes’ men flew out of the traps and were nearly ahead in the second minute.
A neat through ball from Folivi found former Addick Scott Wagstaff, whose tame effort was gathered by Phillips.
Wimbledon showing all the signs of a team coming off the back of two fine away wins.
Efforts from Toby Sibbick and Joe Pigott went close to breaking the deadlock with the visitors only registering an off-target effort from Mark Marshall in the opening exchanges.
The Dons got their deserved lead on 24 minutes when Folivi bundled home a Terrell Thomas effort which came from a set piece for his first strike since joining in January.
You’d think the goal would serve as a wake-up call for Bowyer’s men, but it was quite the opposite as the home side looked the more likely to double their lead.
The impressive Pigott and Folivi caused Bauer and Sarr all sorts of danger both on the floor and surprisingly in the air.
Lyle Taylor’s first 45 minutes on his return to his former club didn’t go to script and it wasn’t until two minutes before the break the forward touched the ball with any conviction.
Picking the ball up on the half-way he drove towards Aaron Ramsdale’s goal only to see his run matched by Will Nightingale who was never more than a meter away from the attacker.
Game of two halves
The second half was barely two minutes old when Bowyer was sent to the stand for something he said to referee Chris Kavanagh, much to the delight of the Wombles.
Charlton’s manager had hardly had a chance to take his seat in the stand when his side struck.
Sarr striking a rocket of an effort on 51 minutes to the top corner leaving Ramsdale rooted to the spot from a free-kick the home side will contest was very soft.
The defender, who was dismissed in the home encounter, nearly joined Bowyer moments later as his rash challenge on Wagastaff could’ve been a red.
Cullen and Jonny Williams nearly gave the Addicks the lead but Ramsgate produced two fine stops to frustrate the now buoyant visitors.
As the game drew to a close both sides emptied their bench knowing that a point helped neither cause.
It was Charlton’s bench who came out on top when Vetokele popped up to prod home in the last minute of the 90 to send the away fans delirious.
