Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has rubbished Johnnie Jackson’s links to the vacant Luton job.
The Addicks assistant manager is the bookmakers’ favourite to succeed former Valley coach Nathan Jones, who left the League One club to join Stoke City on Wednesday.
Jackson, 36, is adored by Charlton fans after making almost 300 appearances across an eight-year spell. He retired from football in May to focus on coaching.
When asked if he knew anything about Jackson’s 2/1 odds to take over at Kenilworth Road, Bowyer, speaking after the Addicks’ impressive 3-0 win at Shrewsbury, said: “No [I don’t know about Johnnie being the bookies’ favourite].
“Apparently someone put something out saying Johnnie had a meeting [with Luton chiefs] yesterday.
“Johnnie said ‘that was a quick meeting because I wasn’t even there!’
“So I don’t think there’s any truth behind it.”
