Much has been made of Charlton’s activity in the transfer window, both in and out of the club.
Charlton, it seems were very shrewd in the last transfer window, bringing in loan signings which have propelled them up the league.
But what of the players they have let go over the last few years? Where are they now?
Nick Pope
The goalkeeper always had promise despite being loaned out seven times during his stay at the Valley until his move in 2016.
His breakthrough season, 2015/16, saw him establish himself as Charlton’s number one in the Championship. Such were his performances he stood out and garnered interest from a number of clubs, but it was Burnley who splashed out a little over £1million for the then 24-year-old.
Since his move Pope’s stock has risen dramatically. Taking full advantage of Tom Heaton’s 2017/18 early season injury, Pope was outstanding as Burnley finished in the Europa League spots and such was his contribution Gareth Southgate drafted him in to the England World Cup squad.
It was thought that after only one real season in England’s top flight that Liverpool were keen to take him to Anfield with a bid of £15million rumoured.
Unfortunately Pope suffered a dislocated shoulder in the first game of Burnley’s season and was replaced by Joe Hart in between the sticks.
He has only just returned to action this week and it may be some time before he dislodges the impressive Hart this season.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson
The Icelandic international was only with the Addicks for two seasons between 2014 and 2016.
He shone in the difficult 2015/16 season so much so that Burnley took him with them as they took the other route out of the Championship.
Since that £2.7million sale, Gudmundsson has been going about his business quietly at Burnley, not that he’s not appreciated. He made appearances in the top flight in the first season and that figure has increased each year and now he’s a firm fixture in Sean Dyche’s starting XI.
Adding goals to his game now too, he’s becoming an influential and well-liked character in the Premiership.

Ademola Lookman
Lookman was always going to be a star.
When he first burst on to the scene as an 18-year old in the 2015/16 season his talent was clear to see. He became a mainstay in the side and already attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in the land.
He shone in a struggling side in the Championship and when the Addicks got relegated he made League One look like a stroll in the park. So much so Everton forked out £7.9million on a 19-year-old.
With a dream debut where he scored against Manchester City, big things were expected of him but he was never given a run of games.
He was sent out to Germany with RB Leipzig mid-season the following season and showed why Everton signed him. Five goals in 11 games was a smart return for a youngster testing himself in a different league.
Back at Everton this season he’s failed to gain the confidence of new manager Marco Silva and once again cuts a frustrated figure on the sideline. One wonders if another loan move for the undoubtedly talented youngster beckons in January?
