Martin Kelly hailed the importance of the home support in Crystal Palace’s effort in climbing the league table.

Making his first league start since September 1st, Kelly filled the void left by suspended James Tomkins in Palace’s 1-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday.

Speaking after the game the former Liverpool defender, 28, said the home fans, buoyed by the return of the Holmesdale Fanatics at the ground, can make Selhurst Park a fortress.

“We showed how dangerous we are at home, especially with how loud our fans are,” said Kelly.

Palace’s win took them to 15th, but only three points above the relegation zone they are still looking over their shoulder.

“Every game now feels massive. They always have in the Premier League, we don’t take any side for granted.

“But going in to home games we’ve got a real chance because how good our fans are when we’re at home, they set us off get us on the front foot. Its brilliant!”

Debutant Delight

Kelly touched upon the importance of the squad in Saturday’s win. Not only was Kelly making only his third start of the season, but goalkeeper Vicente Guaita made his debut for the Eagles and the defender said it’s vital to be prepared to get thrown in to action.

“You’ve got to be ready. Not knowing when your chance will come, but when you’ve been around as long as I have you know you got to keep yourself in top condition and when you do get your chance you’ve got to not look out of place.

“He (Guaita) has been training his socks off and he’s saved us today. I’m sure he’ll be made up that he’s had his chance and he’s done well.”
