Joe Aribo will sign a new deal with Charlton and ward off potential interest from other clubs, insists boss Lee Bowyer.
The 22-year-old’s contract expires next summer and reports have linked him with a move away from the Valley in recent weeks.
However, Bowyer is confident the midfielder will stay with the club after he featured in the Addicks’ win over AFC Wimbledon.
He said: “He's a talent. I think he's getting people talking about him now because he's improving, and that's what we want from him.
“We're obviously in negotiations with Joe, as the football club, and I think they're going well. Joe knows we want him to sign, I believe Joe wants to sign, he will sign, and Joe knows he's learning.
“He ain't gonna go anywhere else - in this division or even in the Championship - and learn more and play games. He needs to play, like last season he wasn't even playing!
“He's playing games and he's learning, he's improving, and it's not a rush. He's only 21 years old, it's not a rush.
“For me, I don't think he'll go I think he'll stay, I think he wants to stay and it'll just be a matter of time before he does sign.
“But obviously there are things we're trying to talk through with his agent so Joe knows this is the best place for him to be at the moment.”
Lyle Taylor, who made the switch from Wimbledon to Charlton this past summer, scored against his former club but Karlan Grant missed out through injury.
The club’s leading league goalscorer, with 11 to his name this season, suffered a hamstring injury during the victory against Portsmouth on Tuesday.
Bowyer says the 21-year-old will be out for a “couple weeks”, with a potential return against Coventry City on Boxing Day.
When asked about how long Grant might be out for, he added: “Couple of weeks. Maybe Coventry.
“At least two weeks, might be able to squeeze him back for Coventry but, again, we'll have to look at the bigger picture maybe and go from there because there are a lot of games in December, January.
“We'll see where we are when that happens.”
