Jamie Ward is a doubt for Charlton’s midweek trip to Scunthorpe.
The Nottingham Forest loanee missed the Addicks’ draw with Luton after picking up a knock in training.
Charlton boss Lee Bowyer said: “He took a knock in training so again, he’s one we’d rather not take a gamble with.
“We’ve got the luxury of having Tariqe [Fosu] back so instead of losing him for four or five weeks.
“We’re better just to take care of him and make sure he doesn't break down so we left him at home.
“I’m not sure. It’s not too serious. It’s just whether we’re going to risk it.
“With some players, you've got to look at the bigger picture, it’s a long season, so there’s no point trying to take unnecessary risks.”
Karlan Grant had played every minute of every league game this season up until today.
And he was only fit enough for the bench after suffering a dead leg in the win over Plymouth last week.
Bowyer added: “He got a kick in the last game and had a dead leg.
“We’ve got another game on Tuesday so we didn't want to risk him and get him fatigued after 60 or 70 minutes and maybe pull something.
“So now he’s got an extra 72-hour rest before the next game so it would have been silly of me to start Karlan.
“But when you've got Igor waiting to go - that’s a good thing. I was really happy with Igor [Vetokele].”
