Bromley boss Neil Smith has praised praise for Omar Bugiel after scoring the Ravens' only goal before missing from 12 yards against Brackley Town.
The 24-year-old struck the first goal of the FA Trophy match in the 19th minute before it was cancelled out by a late Roger Johnson own goal.
He stepped up to take Bromley's fifth penalty but he hit it over the bar before Saints substitute Andy Brown scored the winner.
Smith said: “He has had the highs and lows. He is distraught in there but again what we’ve had is a great team spirit, so he is not in there on his own.
“He is not to blame in any way, shape or form. We’ve got a great togetherness and the boys are getting round him now. He scored a great goal and then you have that at the end.”
It was a tough way to end what has been a memorable campaign for the Hayes Lane outfit, who just missed out on the play-offs while at the same time battling their way through to Wembley.
Chances came and went for both teams during the 120 minutes of football that were played in sweltering heat.
More than 15,000 Bromley supporters trekked all the way to Wembley Stadium, comprising of the 31,430 fans in attendance on the day.
Smith added: “I’m just upset for the players. I thought up until the 94th minute they’d done everything right.
“We let that goal in right at the death with ten seconds to go, I think it was.
“Then they showed character to stay in it for extra-time and then it seems like it was snatched away again going into penalties.
“But the players have been absolutely brilliant for me.
“Since we came in in pre-season to where we are today we’ve made massive strides this club, so I am proud of them.
“I am honoured by what they have given me since the start of the season and I’m upset for them because I think they deserved to get a win.
“Fair play to Brackley, they didn’t give up and they were brilliant.”
