Jason Pearce’s 19th-minute goal handed Charlton a vital win against Blackburn on Saturday.

Rovers hit the crossbar and wasted numerous chances as they searched for an equaliser in the second-half.

But Charlton held on to remain fifth in League One with one game to go.

Here are five things we learned...

The play-offs are in touching distance

Charlton will all but secure a top-six finish if Scunthorpe beat seventh-placed Plymouth tomorrow.

The Addicks have a better goal difference (+8) than Argyle (+4). Lee Bowyer’s men would only drop out of the play-off places if they lose heavily to relegation-threatened Rochdale and Plymouth and Scunthorpe win on the final day of the season.

But given Charlton’s form under Bowyer, it’s unlikely to happen.

Ben Amos saved Charlton

Ben Amos pulled off four magnificent saves against Blackburn to preserve Charlton’s lead. It’s not the first time he’s won three points for the Addicks this season.

In addition to his stops, he constantly relieved pressure on Charlton’s back four by claiming crosses and set-pieces throughout the match in his best performance of the campaign.

The Bolton loanee is a definite contender for Charlton’s Player of the Year award.

Ahmed Kashi returns at the perfect time

Kashi started his first game in nearly two months against Portsmouth last week after recovering from a foot injury.

He was superb at Fratton Park and even better on Saturday. His pressing, interceptions and tackles were faultless. The Algeria international brings so much energy to the Addicks’ midfield - and is hugely missed when he’s injured.

Kashi is out of contract at the end of the season and he’s almost certain to leave if Charlton fail to win promotion.

Luck was finally on Charlton’s side

The Addicks were camped inside their own box for large parts of the second-half as Blackburn dominated.

As mentioned above, the crossbar and Amos came to their rescue - and Bowyer admitted his side rode their luck.

But it was about time - that luck has not been there for the entire season. Late goals against Oxford, Bradford, Walsall, Blackpool (twice), Doncaster and MK Dons have cost Charlton valuable points.

With play-off rivals Scunthorpe and Plymouth also winning on Saturday, it made the Addicks’ win over Blackburn even more crucial.

Lewis Page’s injury woes strike again

Injuries have restricted Page to just 16 Charlton appearances since arriving at the Valley in January 2017. He only made his return from a lengthy injury lay-off last month.

And he has impressed under Bowyer, who has started him over Jay Dasilva in four of the last five games.

Page was stretchered off in the 50th minute after putting his body on the line to stop Blackburn midfielder Richie Smallwood’s shot. He was holding his knee in pain.

But the defender tweeted: “Nasty gash, fair few stitches in the knee but nothing too serious. Thank you for the messages.”

Hopefully he’ll be fit and ready to go for Charlton’s potential play-off games.
