Jed Wallace says that the games against their top-six rivals are going to define their season.
Millwall host Bristol City on Saturday before a trip to Sheffield United in a fortnight’s times and then face sixth-placed Middlesbrough at the end of the month.
The Lions extended their unbeaten league run to 14 games on Monday with a 2-2 draw against Ipswich but missed a host of late chances to move into the play-off places for the first time this season.
Despite the dropped points at Portman Road, the Millwall winger is confident of getting back to winning ways against the Robins.
Wallace said: “As bad as it sounds, the games that are going to define our season are going to be the ones against Bristol City, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough, that’s obvious to see. Whether you are a player like me or a fan. They are the ones that are going to define our season.
“Like I said, Saturday now, I fancy ourselves against anyone at The Den and we look forward to another full stadium, that’s only going to help us, and we kick on again.
“I am always confident at home. You would probably look at it and think we have got to win four out of seven to give us a chance. That doesn’t change, we have still got to win four out of six and the form we are in, that’s more than doable.
“We have to bounce back this weekend and let’s be honest, we have been on a 14-game unbeaten run, we have won nine out of 11, so to come here and get a point, in the long run it might not be a bad thing and there are loads of positives to take from it and we go onto the next one.”
Millwall looked to be on their way to their fifth consecutive Championship victory at Ipswich after Jake Cooper game them a first-half lead. But two goals in four minutes from former Lions striker Martyn Waghorn put Ipswich 2-1 ahead before George Saville’s tenth goal of the season salvaged a point.
The visitors missed several opportunities in the closing stages of the game and Wallace was in disbelief at how his side didn’t take all three points.
He said: “I have no idea [how we have not won that game]. It shows how far we have come really. When I signed last year on-loan, in my opinion we were an average team with a good front two. We battled our way out of League One and this season, we have just come Ipswich and we are absolutely devastated with a draw. We have to win the game, we have to win the game of football.
“Hopefully it will turn out to be a good point with the results around us and it’s the same as it was this morning, but we have to win the game.
“They have to [one of those chances going in]. You have to show that ruthlessness. You are talking about now the teams we are competing with. Fulham with Mitrovic, Middlesbrough with Bamford, but to be fair to the players that missed the chances, they are normally the ones that you would want on the end of them.
“Like I said, to come to Ipswich and be absolutely gutted with a point shows how far we have come. It was comical really, how it didn’t go in. The one that’s hit the post, bouncing around.”
