Lee Bowyer will remain in temporary charge of Charlton until the end of the season, the club has confirmed.
Earlier today, News Shopper revealed he had been given the reigns for the remaining seven games of the campaign after his perfect start. He has won his first three games in charge to guide the Addicks into the top six.
While takeover delays continue, one of the conditions of the sale, agreed by both parties interested in purchasing, will be that Bowyer is kept on as caretaker manager with Johnnie Jackson continuing as his assistant until the end of May.
Bowyer said: “I have been really pleased with the lads. They have done everything I have asked of them since I’ve come in.
“I’m pleased that I have been given until the end of the season but the focus does not change. We want to make the play-offs and I believe we will.”
Charlton director Richard Murray added: “Lee has done a fantastic job since taking charge and the results demonstrate the players have really responded to him. You can also hear the relationship he, along with Johnnie, have with Charlton fans from the reaction they get on a matchday.
“The takeover hasn’t moved as quickly as we had envisaged and it was important for those players and fans to know that whatever happens there will be stability.
“At this stage, there are still two parties looking to purchase the club and everything is close but a date for a takeover is not something I am able to put a timeline on because, as we have seen, these things can take longer than expected.”
