Karl Robinson says Charlton will drift away from the play-offs if they don’t become more ruthless.

Matty Blair’s 94th-minute equaliser stopped the Addicks from moving into the top six today.

Tariqe Fosu, Mark Marshall, Josh Magennis and Ben Reeves spurned glorious opportunities to extend their advantage after Patrick Bauer’s opener.

It’s the second time in a week that Charlton have blown a lead late on after the Oxford United defeat.

Robinson said: “We have to be more ruthless, we have to have more of an edge. Sometimes we go into these situations and think we’ll get another goal and another goal.

“We need to find a ruthless edge. That’s a big thing. I’ve said to the players be more ruthless.

“We’re two points outside the play-offs with two games in hand. I’m sure if you offered that to most teams, they would take it.

“But still, if we don't learn from these situations, we’ll just drift the season away. We were on 46 points with only four or five games to go last year, we’re now sat on 47 with a number of games to go.

“We’re miles ahead of where we were last year. We’ve just got to be more ruthless.”

Doncaster’s goal came in fortuitous circumstances after Luke McCullough’s shot deflected into the path of Blair, who headed home from close-range. 

The Addicks made defensive substitutions by bringing on Johnnie Jackson and Harry Lennon for the final minutes of the game. 

Robinson added: “I don’t think the players have done anything wrong.

“Everything we did today was to shore it up. They did not create a chance. So we've done our job but the thing is, it's a lucky deflection and it drops to someone and he scores. 

“The big thing for me is we haven't taken our chances at 1-0. I said it last week, we need to be more ruthless when we’re 1-0 up. I don't think anyone can write a negative thing about our performance today. 

“We just haven't turned a comfortable position into three points. That’s what it was.”
