The January transfer window is an exciting time for football fans. But it's horrible for Charlton fans with ongoing takeover talks and a reluctant owner unwilling to invest in the squad which simply needs a few more quality players to help our promotion hopes.
It looks like we are going to be asset stripped before the takeover is done with Ezri Konsa likely to follow Ricky Holmes out the door.
I believe the loss of Holmes, even for a small fee, isn’t as bad as you may think. He is a quality player, who scores screamers, but he lost form in November and over the Christmas period.
What does his departure mean for the team? There will be more emphasis on Ben Reeves, Tariqe Fosu and Mark Marshall to deliver. That is a decent front three if you ask me. With the highly talented Stephy Mavididi back in the squad and terrorising defenders, this could be the rocket we need to kick on.

We’ve also lost our chief executive, Katrien Meire, to Sheffield Wednesday. Contrary to what most Charlton fans think, I always believed that she had the Addicks at heart. She was under a lot of pressure from Roland Duchatelet and was his shield from abuse. Our transfer dealings last summer showed that she learned from her mistakes. I do commend Meire and wish her all the luck going forward.
Now, I’m pleading with Duchatelet to make some funds, even if they're minimal, to Karl Robinson. He is working miracles with a small squad, and just imagine if he was able to bring in two or three additions this month – a play-off spot would be guaranteed – and we could launch an attack on the top two. Surely you’ll be able to get more money from potential buyers if you’re selling a Championship club?
I know it’s unlikely but please… just do what's best for Charlton in this month's transfer window.
