Sheffield United have not given up hope of signing Charlton winger Ricky Holmes, reports say.

Holmes, 30, was heavily linked with a move to the Blades over the summer, before signing a new and improved three-year deal with Charlton in July.

He has started the new season in excellent form, either scoring or assisting five of the Addicks’ 11 league goals.

And it has seen United continue to keep tabs on Charlton’s star man.

The Star reports that Blades boss Chris Wilder sent a member of his coaching staff to watch Holmes in Charlton’s 2-0 win at Rotherham last month.

The Sheffield-based publication go on to say it has prompted speculation the Championship club could make a fresh bid for the ex-Portsmouth man in January.

United failed with two bids for Holmes, who has said he never wanted to leave the Valley.

Charlton are third in League One after winning four of their opening five games. And if they are still in the promotion picture in January, then the club will not entertain selling one of their best players in Holmes.
