Charlton boss Karl Robinson has been happy to wait for Ben Reeves to decide on his next move.

Reeves and his agent watched Charlton’s 6-1 win over Ipswich on Saturday, fuelling speculation of a move to the Valley.

And talks have re-opened to bring the playmaker to Charlton this week.

The Addicks offered Reeves, who left MK Dons earlier this summer, a deal in May. But he wanted to view other options before committing to anything.

And it is something Robinson, who is a big admirer of the Northern Ireland international, accepted.

When asked if Reeves has been holding out for a better move, Robinson told News Shopper: “No, there was an option for him to go to Spain to play at the highest level of the game.

“He wanted to take stock and see what other teams brought in to see if there was a club that had ambition. But I know there are still Championship clubs chasing Ben Reeves.

“He wanted to have a look at what clubs were doing. He’s a thinker. The fans of ours have seen he’s a special talent.”

Robinson has said he only wants to sign players who want to come to Charlton.

And with Reeves taking time to decide on his future, it could have given the impression that the Addicks were not his first choice.

Robinson insists he will give players time to decide to join the club if it is for the right reasons.

He added: “You've got to want to be here. Some players have said to me ‘I want to be here if you've got the ambition’. I think it’s a case of everything has to fall into line.

“In some ways, for a player of great quality the door will always be open, but only if he wants to walk through it himself. I’m not going to pull any player here.”
