Billy Clarke says Charlton’s off-field issues did not play on his mind when deciding on a move to the Valley.

Addicks supporters are unhappy with the way owner Roland Duchatelet is running the club and want him to sell-up.

Clarke, who left Bradford to sign a two-year deal with Charlton on Thursday, was aware of the fans’ demonstrations against Duchatelet.

He told News Shopper: “The protests have been well documented on various Football League shows. It would just be time consuming and mentally draining if the players were to focus on it.

“I didn’t even think about it before coming here. I knew the size of Charlton and I knew the way the manager and everyone wants the club to go.

“It’s just down to us to focus on the football side of things and that’s a completely different matter for us.

“We’re solely focusing on the football, training and preparing for the season.”
