Charlton are capable of sealing promotion this season despite suffering an opening-day defeat at Bury, according to Andrew Crofts.
The Addicks were the second favourites to win League One before the campaign started, but went down 2-0 at Gigg Lane through second-half goals from Neil Danns and Kelvin Etuhu.
Crofts, who joined the club in July, felt Russell Slade’s side were unlucky not to leave Greater Manchester with at least a point.
And when asked whether he thinks Charlton have the resources to bounce straight back to the Championship, Crofts said: “Yeah definitely, without a doubt.
“We were a bit hard done by [against Bury] but that’s football.

“We’ve got a lot of new players, a new manager who’s putting his stamp on the squad so it’s going to take a bit of time to really gel together.
“But we’re getting there and we will get there. The gaffer wants to bring in a few more and that’s only going to help.
“We’re unlucky not to come away with something today. But that’s gone now, we need to be positive, keep together and focus on the next game.”
After a tight opening period, recent signing Jason Pearce conceded a penalty which allowed Bury to get on top.
Crofts, 32, felt Bury’s opener came against the run of play.
“We’re bitterly disappointed not to come away with at least a point,” the former Brighton and Norwich player said.
“The penalty came against the run of play – I never thought out there we were going to lose the game. But it happens and we will learn from that.
“You come away to Bury and you know you’re going to be under it in the first-half.
“We weathered the storm and defended well and then we came out and started really brightly and looked like the team that would score.
“We were playing some good football and progressed into the game nicely. I felt comfortable and I thought we would go on to maybe get the win.
“But then the penalty has come against the run of play and that changes the game – it was hard after that.”
