Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo refused to comment on his spell at Ajax after sealing a hat-trick for Charlton on Saturday.

The French forward joined the Dutch side on a season-long loan deal in July but only played four games for the club.

After a turbulent period in the Eredivisie, Sanogo made a loan switch to Championship-strugglers Charlton on transfer deadline day.

When asked whether injuries played a part in his struggles at Ajax, Sanogo said: “Yeah, but I don’t want to speak about Ajax.

“No [I did not enjoy it there]. So nothing about Ajax.”

The Massy-born talisman joined the Gunners in 2013 from Auxerre at the age of 20.

Since then he has failed to establish himself in the Premier League, playing just 11 league games for the club.

Sanogo scored his first senior goal since last January on Saturday on the way towards an impressive hat-trick in the 4-3 defeat to Reading.

But he was keen to stress that injuries have played a part in the lengthy goal drought.

He said: “I came to Arsenal at a very young age. So I take the experience with Arsenal, I play some games, I score goals. But I want to develop.

“It’s the first time I didn’t play a lot of games because I’ve had a lot of injuries, so [that’s why] I didn’t score and didn’t play.”

Sanogo will be hoping to build on his hat-trick when Charlton travel to Brentford on Saturday.
