Simon Makienok admits sarcastic cheers from some Charlton fans are not helping him - but insists it does not affect him "that much" either.
The 6ft 7ins forward scored a 70th minute equaliser in the Addicks’ 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest at the Valley on Saturday.
They could have won it at the death but Dorus De Vries made two excellent saves to deny returning Colchester loanee Callum Harriott.
The goal was Makienok’s third for the club since joining from Serie A side Palermo on a season-long loan.
After struggling in the 3-0 defeat to Ipswich in November, the Great Dane has come under harsh criticism from some Charlton fans who have sarcastically cheered him when winning headers.
Talking about the jeers, Makienok said: “I just try and do my best in every game.
“I know I had a really bad game against Ipswich and I think it [sarcastic cheers] came after that.
“It definitely doesn't help me but it doesn't affect me that much either to hear that.
“Of course, some games are better than others but that game was not good enough for me.
“Ever since then, I’ve worked on what I’ve had to do and I still have to adapt to this league. It’s getting better and better.”
The Denmark international was dropped for the following three games but regained his place due to an Ademola Lookman injury.
Before and after the Forest game, around 1,000 supporters stood outside the West Stand to vent their anger at owner Roland Duchatelet.
Makienok revealed the protests did not have a negative influence on the team.
He added: “The protest doesn't affect me and I don't think it affects the other players but, of course, the situation we’re in affects us.
“To be 1-0 down and get a draw is alright but it was just tough to concede again before half-time.
“We know we don't have the highest confidence and that we don't play the best football we've played.
“We have tried a lot of different things, systems, some have worked, some haven’t.
“We’re still trying to get out of this crisis and we will try to do that by working hard every day on the training ground.”
Charlton are now only one point away from safety and take a break from the league as they go up against Colchester in the FA Cup this weekend.
