Johnnie Jackson feared his days of Valley highs were over before inspiring Charlton’s 2-2 comeback against Fulham.
At 2-0 down, the Addicks skipper came on with ten minutes to go and pulled a goal back with his first touch which gave Guy Luzon’s men the lift they needed.
Then, with Jackson driving Charlton forward, Jordan Cousins leapt highest to powerfully head home Karlan Ahearne-Grant’s cross in the 96th minute.
Earlier, Charlton had looked dead and buried after a Nick Pope error gifted Ryan Tunnicliffe the opener and Ross McCormack had added a second.
But the game changed with Jackson's late introduction from the subs' bench.
The skipper said: “I’ve had my moments like against Fulham before and I probably started to think there might not be any more.
“You can’t help but think like that when you’re not involved so to have another one really pleased me.
“I didn't expect it at all - you’re getting subbed on and hoping that you can have an effect but to have one that quickly was incredible.
“When the Valley is how it was for the last ten minutes and after, for me, it’s the best place to be in football.”
The 33-year-old midfielder admitted it has been a frustrating season due to niggling injuries and lack of game time when fit.
On Sunday (October 4), Jackson reminded not just the fans, but his manager that he can still play a massive part for the club.
The Charlton stalwart said: “I’ve been dying to get out there and contribute - I want to play every game.
“It’s tough for any player when you’re not being selected, especially for me as I’ve been here so long.

“But when you have an opportunity, you must take it.
“I was emotional when I scored and it was probably a few months of frustration coming out.
“I’ve shown the manager that I’m ready to play my part and whether or not he had reservations before the game, maybe he won’t now.”
A bad injury at the back-end of last season hampered Jackson’s pre-season and the additions of Ahmed Kashi and El-Hadji Ba only knocked him further down the pecking order.
But the player, whose contract expires next summer, thanked the fans for staying loyal to him.
While warming up during the Fulham game, the Valley faithful chanted his song to show their support for him.
“It fills me with confidence when I hear the songs," he added.
Guy Luzon was impressed with Jackson's performance
“My relationship with the fans has always been brilliant since the moment I’ve been here and I really appreciate that.
“It’s nice that the fans were singing for me and hopefully my goal paid them back.”
Jackson, who hasn't started a league game since February, hoped that this draw can be a catalyst to restart their season.
He said: “I hope it’s not a false start - we needed something to stop the rot.
“We needed something out of the ordinary and my goal was that and you saw the transformation of the team.
“Our performances can’t be shown in a ten minute game, though.
“We have to do it more often.”
After the international break, Charlton play high-flying Reading and Jackson will hope to be in the starting XI.
