Charlton Athletic are already lining up several deals for the January transfer window, chief executive Katrien Meire has revealed.

In an exclusive interview with News Shopper, the Addicks CEO said the club have begun to identify certain players as targets ahead of the winter.

Meire admitted a potential right-back may be lined up, while also hinting that the board could look to bolster Guy Luzon’s attacking options.

“Things can change between now and January but we have some ideas of what we want, but what you want is not always what you get,” the Valley chief told News Shopper.

“Everybody knows we need cover at right-back, we have options lined up but we don’t know yet when or if we will act on that.

“Obviously up front we’ve been unlucky with injuries in the wingers and attackers, so we’ll see once they come back from injury.

“If they can continue the season then great, but if not we’ll have to look at some attacking options.”

The Addicks have enjoyed some productive transfer windows in the last few years but the majority of players have arrived in south east London from abroad.

However, when questioned whether this was a policy adopted by the club or merely coincidence, Meire said: “It’s a coincidence.

“We target players who we think are talented and can help the club – I don’t care where they come from.

“It’s for sure not a policy.

“Our future lies in a mix of really good academy players, experienced Championship players and guys from abroad, that will help balance the books and hopefully enjoy success.”
