Winger Johann Gudmundsson admitted the opportunities squandered in last night’s 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest left the Addicks feeling like they’d lost the contest.
Guy Luzon’s men had gilt-edged chances in both halves to take the lead at the City Ground.
But a combination of wasteful finishing and fine goalkeeping from Dorus De Vries ensured the points were shared in the Midlands.
Gudmundsson said: “The mood in the dressing room feels like we’ve lost the game this evening.
“We had two big chances in the first half – one of them should have come off.
“Then in the second half one of our big chances should have gone in and we should’ve scored at least twice.
“But that’s how football is – in this league you have to take your chances and we didn’t do that tonight.”
He added: “It’s a good start but we should have won this game.
“If we win on Saturday against Hull City that would be a good return, because people looked at our games this month and said it would be tough for us.
“We’ve done really well and we just want to keep going.”
A plethora of summer signings has seen the Addicks take on a new-look for the 2015/16 season, and the winger was keen to emphasise the positive impact of the new recruits.
Gudmundsson explained: “The new players have seen us look solid in defence and exciting going forward.
“Two clean sheets so far show that if we can improve ourselves going forward it looks good for us.
“It’s all positive in the camp at the moment.”
Charlton’s number seven put pen to paper on a new four-year deal in SE7 in the summer, news that was deemed better than any new signing by the majority of Addicks fans.
And signing the contract extension before the majority of new arrivals had come in was down to Luzon convincing Gudmundsson of the quality he had lined up.
He said: “The new contract shows that the club is heading in the right direction – the players he is bringing in show ambition.
“We didn’t know too much about them, but they told me they were going to get good players in and that’s what they’ve done.”
