Matthew Briggs has revealed his desire to play first-team football inspired his loan move to Colchester.
The left-back will remain at the League One club until the end of the season.
"It's a great chance for me to play some regular football," Briggs told the club's official website.
"As a footballer, you want to play all the time but the manager (Ian Holloway) has changed the team around recently and this gives me a chance to further my career.
"I've heard Colchester are a good footballing team and I already know a few of the lads. I went to school with Craig Eastmond, so I'm sure that will help me settle in."
