Ian Holloway has warned his players of the threat posed by Brighton’s Darren Bent.

Millwall travel to the Amex Stadium on Friday night hoping to recover from their 5-1 defeat by Middlesbrough and to increase the pressure on 22nd-placed Brighton.

Former England striker Bent, who once cost Aston Villa an initial £18million, appears to have declined in recent seasons but Holloway remains wary of his ability to score.

“There’s one (dangerman) who springs to mind, ain’t there?,” Holloway said.

“Darren Bent.

“Apparently he scores when he’s asleep. They’ve done well to get him. It shows their ambition.

“What we’ve gotta do is make sure that our team can bounce back. That’s what we’re looking to do, really.

“I’ve got no doubts (Bent can still play in the Premier League).

“Whether he wants to or whether he gets the opportunity to is down to him, ain’t it?”

Friday’s fixture represents a chance for Millwall to climb from 20th to at least 17th and the manager, understandably, is keen for his side to move on from the disappointment of last weekend.

“We’ve gotta move on past (defeat by Middlesbrough) so let’s see how the boys do in this game,” he said.

“This game’s really important for us to shake that off, get on with it and get back to what we were doing.

“I think it’ll be a really tough game but it’s one I’m looking forward to.”
