Bob Peeters praised the emergence of Callum Harriott and Nick Pope after the young Charlton pair again impressed in the 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest. 

The Charlton head coach revealed he asked Harriott to simplify his game since being converted into a forward and is pleased with the way he has responded.

“Callum was struggling in the beginning,” Peeters, incidentally a former striker, explained.

“We gave him a lot of info. I thought his game was too difficult, it's important that you play as a striker you need to hold up the ball and try and give your team a breather. Thats what he’s doing at the moment. 

“I think he still can progress. But he had a good game, had a good finish. 

“I’m very happy with Callum, the way he is progressing. He needs to continue and hopefully score some more goals.”

With first-choice goalkeeper Stephen Henderson sidelined with a shoulder injury, Nick Pope has deputised since November's derby with Millwall. 

Peeters is pleased to see yet another young player come into the side and perform, which so far at Charlton has been part of his philosophy.

“He (Pope) did pretty well,” said Peeters.

“I’m very happy that a young gun can take his chances, that's the same for Callum Harriott and Jordan Cousins. 

“These are guys who have come through the academy and shown they can stand their ground in the Championship.

“Against a goal like that, you can’t do anything, right in the top corner. 

“Popey touched it, but it was a good goal and that's why we only got one point.”

Peeters watched his side draw after Harriott had given them the lead in the 10th minute. 

He was regardless pleased with the result, despite Charlton dropping to 11th in the Championship.

“A good point,” the Belgian said.

“I think we had a better game in the first half. If Igor can score to make it two-nil it would have been deserved at that moment. 

“We didn’t score to make it two-nil, and you knew in the second half they were going to come out and try to get the goal.

“We stood our ground pretty well. We didn’t play our football at a certain point, because there was a lot of pressure from them, with the crowd behind them. 

“They didn’t really have a lot of chances. They scored a cracking goal, you can’t do anything about it. 

“We had three very good chances where we only scored one. If we finish those chances, we could win the game.”

The Addicks will look to return to winning ways against rock-bottom Blackpool at The Valley on Saturday.
