Despite a 0-0 draw in a London derby and not the most thirst-quenching match, a clean sheet and preserving the unbeaten record against Charlton since 1996 is worth its weight in gold and I left the ground happy.
Talking about gold, the press conference was not about referees this week or dubious decisions which was music to my ears but instead about Ian Holloway's vision that is inspired by Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Ian Holloway said you need to believe it to see it and could his vision of what he wants to create at Millwall be compared to the ever-lasting gobstopper and the greatest treasure of all being reaching the Premier League? Do you believe and will we see it?
There is no questioning the very fact that Millwall this season are in transition and the gobstopper is very unlikely to be completed this season. Millwall have over 40 professionals in the squad and many players have been inherited from previous regimes.
Many are out of contract at the end of the season and I feel a vast number will depart and we will be watching a very different Millwall next season. I don’t believe Holloway has started to create the gobstopper yet.
If Millwall are in transition, my question this week is: after recent displays and a lack of results do they have enough to remain in the championship and how can we ensure we avoid the drop to League One?
I believe we can and that there are more than three sides that deserve to be relegated more than the Lions. The championship is the fifth most watched league in the world and everybody is beating everyone.
A run of games could see Millwall shoot up the table and, mathematically, you can still be talking about the play-offs. Holloway made only two changes to the side at The Valley, bringing back Scott Malone after injury and also Byron Webster. And the limited changes received a positive reaction from the fans as recent weeks the constant tinkering has caused much debate.
The next batch of games for Millwall are some of the hardest but are there any easy games in the Championship?
Millwall head to high-flyers Bournemouth on Saturday and a result away to the Cherries could be the perfect icing on the cake.
I predict Holloway will pick the same side he did at Charlton and that the Lions will be hard to break down. The constant worry of conceding from set-pieces is always a worry but with David Forde approaching his 300th game for the club I think the Lions may upset Bournemouth.
