Eagles manager Neil Warnock felt his side should have had even more than the three goals they scored in today's 3-1 Selhurst win over Liverpool.
The visitors made the perfect start by taking the lead inside 90 seconds as Adam Lallana’s excellent through ball found Rickie Lambert, who cut inside before coolly firing past Julian Speroni with a left-footed shot.
But Palace were back on terms in the 17th minute when Yannick Bolasie bombed forward and unleashed a low 25 yard drive which cannoned off the post into the path of Dwight Gayle.
The striker was ideally placed to take full advantage and duly did so by shooting into the net, his fourth goal in three games against the Kopites.
Palace took the lead 12 minutes from time as Joe Ledley swept the ball home after being picked out by Bolasie.
And the home fans were in dreamland three minutes later when skipper Mile Jedinak stepped up to smash in a free-kick from outside the box which gave Simon Mignolet no chance.
Warnock was asked if it was the best display so far since he returned for a second spell in charge at the club, a question which drew an affirmative response from the veteran manager.
“It was the best performance - more like a Neil Warnock team.
“The weather helped. I went to watch Scotland v Ireland a week ago and I felt the same here – it was exciting, the crowd got it going.
“I thought our crowd were fantastic today.
“Their goal could have knocked the stuffing out of us really but we said we wanted to play. We got caught by a simple ball, it were disappointing that but you can score too early sometimes.
“But I thought the way we played, the way we responded it wasn’t kick and rush, it was really constructive.
“I thought we played some really good stuff, attacked at will when we broke out of defence and created some good chances.”
Warnock admitted he would have liked to have seen his side inflict even more damage on an abysmal Liverpool outfit.
He explained: “I’m pleased to get three but if anything I’m disappointed we didn’t score more.
“Bolasie was a real handful and he has done so much travelling as well.
“If I was a full-back I wouldn’t want to play against him because he doesn’t know what he is going to do next, so the full-back has got no chance has he?
“Jedinak was a long distance traveller as well, Australia lost 1-0 in Japan so it was a lot of travelling for the lads but I thought they really responded and dug deep today.
“I don’t think I could ask any more from the team.”
Warnock added: “I think we could have done that to most teams today if I‘m being honest, and that is just this league in general.
“If you take anybody lightly you could get tuned over - anybody in the league.
“We could have had six or seven points quite easily more by playing some good stuff and today I thought we got our just rewards for playing good football. We played it really well – we’ve took our chances today.
“We’ve had opportunities in every game to put other teams under pressure and we haven’t been able to do that, but today I thought we played some really good stuff.
“We looked really well organised and difficult to break down.”
Gayle played the full 90 minutes on his return to the starting XI and Warnock was delighted with the way he worked so well with strike partner Marouane Chamakh.
“I thought he did ever so well,” the Selhurst manager revealed.
“He has been super all week this week – he has been bright and lively.
“I talked to him earlier in the week and said ‘you trained well last week’.
“Fraizer Campbell got a bit of a knock as well, he was out for a few days this week but I said to Dwight if you train like last week and continue it this week, you never know.
“I had no hesitation in putting him in and he does well when he plays with Chamakh.
“He did well at Newcastle - but then Chamakh got injured - because he needs that sort of strength alongside him.
“He is probably the only guy at the club who could score the goal, the rebound, and that is his type of finish.”
