Bob Peeters will resist the temptation to sign another left-back after Rhoys Wiggins was ruled out for at least six weeks.
The defender suffered a stress fracture in his foot during Tuesday evening’s 2-2 draw at Leeds United and now faces a spell on the sidelines until just before Christmas at the earliest.
However, head coach Peeters is confident Charlton have enough options in their current squad to get by until then and avoid the need to bring in another player.
He said: “Joe Gomez is coming back, Chris Solly is fit to play on Saturday so I think at the back we are comfortable now, especially left-back and right-back.
“The only left-footed full-back is Morgan Fox, but again Lawrie Wilson can play there, Joe Gomez when it is necessary can play there so at this point there is no need to bring in another left-back (on loan).”
Confirming the bad news about Wiggins, Peeters revealed: “He has a stress fracture in his foot so I think we are looking at at least six weeks.
“We need to manage him now because something he did already before fractures his foot so now we need to assess him for a few weeks.
“But I think now he is going to be in a boot for two weeks and then afterwards we will see how the bone will heal.
“Then we will assess the situation.”
The Charlton boss was asked to speculate if Morgan Fox will start in Saturday’s game at Reading.
“He is an option,” the Valley supremo said.
“Normally you have Rhoys Wiggins number one and Morgan Fox number two, but again we are still looking at the team of Reading, where we can hurt them and where are their strengths.
“At this moment he (Fox) is one of the options and we will pick the team on Saturday.”
