Speculation is growing this morning Diego Poyet is set to choose West Ham United as his new club.
The 18-year-old’s decision is bound to irk Addicks fans still annoyed to this day with Jermain Defoe after he made a similar switch across the Blackwell Tunnel to Upton Park in the 1990s having come through the ranks in SE7.
Poyet burst into the Charlton team in the second half of last season but only making 20 appearances for the Addicks didn’t stop him being voted as the club’s player of the season.
However, the talented midfielder decided last week to reject a new contract offer from Charlton, with several top flight sides, including Manchester City and Chelsea, reportedly after his signature.
But it now appears West Ham have won the race to snap up Poyet and he could be wearing the claret and blue next month when the new Premier League season kicks off.
