CRYSTAL Palace co-chairman Steve Parish believes Eagles supporters will not forget last night’s victory at Brighton for a very long time.

Wilfried Zaha’s superb second half brace booked Palace’s first ever trip to the new Wembley and Parish feels victory over Watford in the most financially rewarding game in global football could change the Eagles permanently.

He explained: “We are just one game away now.

“We have to keep our eye on the prize - we have only won a semi-final.

“But now we have the biggest football game in the world.

“It changes football clubs forever and we have one game to achieve that.

“To beat your biggest rivals in their own stadium in a play-off semi-final is something which will not be forgotten by the fans for a long, long time.

“I’m one of those people who think what goes around comes around in life and in football, so I won’t be gloating too much.

“They have a good set up and owners here, they will get to the Premier League but not this year.”

Palace will now face Gianfranco Zola’s Hornets at Wembley for a place in the big time and Parish is expecting a sell out and a historic day for all involved.

The Hornets may well be favourites going into the showpiece clash but the passionate Palace co-chairman knows the game could go either way.

“Watford will want it just as much as us and they will probably start favourites,” Parish said.

“It’s got all the ingredients for a great game, like the Brighton games were.

“Hopefully it will be a nice day.

“It’s Palace at the new Wembley for the first time.

“We will sell it out. What an amazing sight that will be, one of those days we will always remember.”

After a goalless draw in the first leg of their semi-final against Brighton, Palace arrived at the AMEX Stadium as the underdogs but they managed to turn the form table on its head.

Parish believes the Eagles always revel in being outsiders for a big game and expects Wembley to be no different in two weeks’ time.

“We like being underdogs,” he said.

“It allowed us to make our plans without that expectation going into this game.

“We thought we would get the result but not many others did.

“We are happy to be the underdogs at Wembley too.”
