BRADLEY Pritchard is hoping Charlton can take the momentum built up over the last six games into the start of next season.

Saturday’s rampant 6-0 win at Barnsley virtually secured their place in the Championship and the victory was also Charlton’s fourth in six matches, making them one of the form teams in the division at the moment.

And Pritchard, who opened the scoring at the weekend, is hoping his side can continue their purple patch and take it with them into the start of the next campaign in August.

“It will certainly give us some momentum,” said the midfielder.

“We have been looking for some consistency through the season.

“A lot of us have been learning, not all of us have played at this level.

“One or two of us have before and have had to cope with the pressures of it, so for us we are all still learning and are getting used to the way the league is.

“With that comes a bit more consistency and I think that will put us in good stead for next year.”

Pritchard added: “I’ve been missing from 18 yards, and then 12 yards, then six yards and then I thought ‘well, hopefully four yards will be more of my distance’ and turns out it is.

“I was just happy to be there.

“Johnnie Jackson was right there as well so I had to fight him off for that goal, but I was just happy to add to the goal tally.

“I’m very happy, it is about time I scored another.

“I had been living off my first goal for I don’t even know how long, so it’s definitely good to start adding goals and a few more assists so I’m happy and as long I can keep providing for the team, then certainly I’ll be smiling.”

Charlton, who incredibly had six different scorers at the weekend, had been guilty of spurning chances recently.

But Pritchard believed it was only a matter a time before a result like the one at Oakwell was going to happen.

He explained: “It was certainly testament to the way we played and we took our chances.

“I think a lot of the lads who have signed in the last year or two years have said a result like that has been a long time coming.

“We had been hoping for a result like that, probably not as emphatic as it was, but it is certainly one where I feel like we have deserved the goals and the amount of possession “It is something we have tried to work towards.

“I don’t think we saw 6-0 but we are all very happy with that.

“It is good to show that we can get goals in different areas.

“The forwards and Johnnie Jackson have been doing it all season but everyone is trying to chip in.

“And it’s good to show that it is a real team effort and we are not necessarily always relying on one person.

“We don’t rely on one particular player, so for us to be at our best we need the majority, if not the whole team, to perform.

“I think we are doing that just at the right time, especially with the way that this league is.

“Putting a few results together can do wonders, not just getting away from the bottom but maybe even looking towards the top, so I think we have just got to continue and hope everyone keeps playing well.”
