CHARLTON all but secured their Championship status with an emphatic victory at struggling Barnsley this afternoon.

First half goals from Bradley Pritchard and Johnnie Jackson, followed second half efforts from Yann Kermorgant, Callum Harriott, Salim Kerkar and Ricardo Fuller, plus two late Barnsley red cards, were enough to earn Charlton their first win at Oakwell since 1995.

The Addicks went ahead on four minutes when Kermorgant met a low Chris Solly cross with a fierce drive.

Barnsley keeper Luke Steele failed to hold it and Pritchard gobbled up the rebound from six yards.

Fifteen minutes later they doubled their lead through Jackson.

The skipper collected the ball from Pritchard on the edge of the box, feigned to shoot and in doing so, eluded two Barnsley challenges before driving a shot through the legs of Steele with his right foot.

Jackson almost extended the lead further on 28 minutes when his deep cross was tipped out from underneath the crossbar by Steele.

Tykes boss David Flitcroft responded by throwing on forward Jason Scotland before the match had even reached the half hour mark.

The Trinidad striker had an immediate impact on proceedings by cutting a pass back to Jacob Mellis, whose low effort from 18 yards was hacked away by Rhoys Wiggins.

Chris Powell’s men added a third three minutes after the break.

Wiggins knocked the ball past Scott Wiseman and sent in a delicious cross, which Kermorgant nodded in at the far post And it got even better for Charlton two minutes before the hour mark as Callum Harriott made it four.

He picked up a Pritchard pass on the left-hand-side of the penalty area and fired straight at Steele, who fumbled the ball into his own net.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men on 61 minutes when Stephen Dawson was given a straight red card for a two-footed lunge on Kermorgant, although replays suggested he played the ball.

And the Addicks added to their advantage 10 minutes from time when substitute Kerkar slotted in with his first touch of the ball after picking up an Obika centre.

Things did not get any better for the Tykes as Tom Kennedy was sent off for a last-man foul on Fuller five minutes later.

And to compounded their misery it was the Jamaican who made it six in stoppage time when he curled home from the edge of the box.
