WIGAN’S 3-0 FA Cup quarter-final win at Everton may have shocked many in the game but the result came as no big surprise to Millwall manager Kenny Jackett.

The Latics went to Goodison on the back of a heavy home defeat the previous weekend against Liverpool to take on an Everton team who had only lost once all season on their own patch prior to the game.

But goals from Maynor Figueroa, Callum McManaman and Jordi Gomez in three first half minutes stunned the Toffees and threw the form book out of the window.

Jackett will be looking for his Championship Millwall side to do something similar this Saturday when they take on top flight Wigan in the semi-final at Wembley, but he know they will have to be at their very best to upset the odds and get the better of Everton’s conquerors.

He said: “I think Wigan are capable of beating anybody in their level at Premier League on their day.

“I don’t know if April is a great time to play Wigan, they get going very well at that time.

“They have a side that has a lot of talent and they’ve proved that when they are playing well they can give any Premier League side a game and beat them, so it didn’t surprise me (beating Everton 3-0).

“In terms of capabilities they are strong.”

The Millwall manager will be crossing swords with Roberto Martinez in the opposite dugout, a figure he knows well from his time as skipper under Jackett’s stewardship at Swansea City.

“When I was the manager of Swansea he was the captain of the promotion team and then we went on to win the Football League Trophy,” recalled Jackett.

“He was a first class captain and as a player as good a pro as I’ve ever seen.

“It was some years ago now but he has taken that professionalism into his management and has had a very good career so far.

“You could see he had the capabilities to be a manager. He was very popular as a player and then later on as a manager.

“He deserved that popularity, he was that good and, as I say, that professional and he earned that.”

Midfielder Liam Trotter is Millwall’s one major injury doubt for the big day, although the gaffer is more optimistic on James Henry’s chances after he returned as a substitute in this week’s 2-1 Den defeat at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday.

Jackett confirmed: “Liam Trotter missed Tuesday’s game with Sheffield Wednesday due to a knee injury, we are expecting him to train tomorrow but we will have to see whether he is fit or not because he missed the last game.

“I would rate him at 50-50.

“James Henry is OK and made a sub appearance on Tuesday night and has had no reaction to that so he is fit and available.

“He has been fine after the game and I certainly think he will be in the 18.”
