AN INJURY time winner from Tottenham loanee Jonathan Obika secured a 2-1 Valley success for Charlton over Leeds United this afternoon.

Johnnie Jackson had put the hosts in front early in the second half before former Addicks striker Luke Varney got the visitors back on terms on 81 minutes.

However, it was substitute Obika who had the final say deep into stoppage time as he headed home the decisive goal to send the home fans into delirium.

There was one change from the side which picked up a hard earned point in Tuesday’s 0-0 draw at Brighton as Ricardo Fuller came back into the starting XI at the expense of Lawrie Wilson.

Leeds had an early unconvincing penalty claim ignored when Paul Green took a tumble in the box and moments later David Norris just failed to connect with a decent cross from the right.

Ben Hamer was called into action for the first time to deny former Millwall striker Steve Morison in the fifth minute.

Yann Kermorgant’s 11th minute effort was easily dealt with by Paddy Kenny in the Leeds goal.

Moments later he did well to save Dorian Dervite’s shot from the edge of the area but Michael Morrison was unable to convert the loose ball.

Sam Byrom made a great tackle inside his box to prevent Callum Harriott getting in a shot, while at the other end Hamer made a comfortable catch to keep out Morison’s flicked header from a Green corner.

Green blazed a shot over before Jason Pearce had to hack behind Harriott’s drilled shot for a corner and then Kermorgant’s header drifted just wide from Rhoys Wiggins’ inviting delivery.

Harriott’s 25 yard attempt had Kenny at full stretch but went inches wide of the target and there was nobody to get on the end of Bradley Pritchard’s left-wing cross, much to the frustration of the home fans.

Charlton broke the deadlock two minutes after the break.

Andy Hughes’ initial shot was blocked but the ball fell kindly to skipper Jackson inside the box and he blasted it past Kenny from inside the box.

Norris clattered into Kermorgant and picked up a yellow card.

Morison hit the post after Dervite had blocked Michael Tonge’s attempt before one-tim Addick Varney came off the bench to boos from the home fans to replace Aiden White.

Charlton made their first change on 77 minutes on 77 minutes as Fuller made way for Salim Kerkar but Leeds were back on terms four minutes later.

The visitors were awarded a free-kick just inside the Charlton half following a late challenge by Kermorgant on Ross McCormack.

Stephen Warnock whipped the free-kick into the box and the home defence failed to clear and Varney blasted a shot past Hamer, although the Charlton defence claimed there had been a Leeds handball.

Kermorgant headed straight at Kenny, Solly shot just wide and then saw another effort hacked off the line by Lee Peltier as the hosts tried hard to quickly restore their advantage.

Obika came on for the impressive Harriott with four minutes remaining and it was he who snatched the decisive goal at the death when he met Wiggins’ cross and headed home from six yards, a goal which could well have guaranteed Charlton’s Championship status.
