REGARDING the letter from Altie Bacon (Dog Problems Still Around 60 Years On, News Shopper, July 4).
After a lengthy description of an attack by a small dog he says, rather surprisingly, "I defend the right of any person to own any breed of dog they wish to have".
Several times a year we read in the national press, or see on TV, that a toddler was left alone in the family house, even if only for a couple on minutes, and was savaged or even killed by the family pet "who wouldn't hurt a fly".
The pet in question usually turns out to be a Staffordshire Pit Bull cross.
Isn't there something called the Dangerous Dogs Act?
