IF YOU believe the statistics trotted out by the Metropolitan Police Authority, Bexley Police and Bexley Council, Bexley is one of the safest councils in the land.

In reality this is not how Bexley residents perceive it, faced with uncontrolled bursts of youth violence and vandalism in our streets and parks and on public transport.

Either borough commander Chief Superintendent Robin Merrett's men are not doing their jobs properly or our police force is seriously depleted and underfinanced, objectively incapable to keep the peace in our streets.

For the past 10 years several policing schemes have been tried by a series of passing borough commanders but gradually the situation is getting worse every year.

Unfortunately Bexley is not Highgate, Hampstead Heath, Chelsea or Kensington, highly policed London areas.

Very few, if any, influential members of the British establishment reside in Bexley in a position to pull strings and open doors, ensuring they and their families go about their business without being robbed or assaulted by the lower classes.
