GOOD NEWS ON CAR PARK: I see no reason why we really need a 913-space car park next to an inner London Tube station - North Greenwich - and therefore welcome plans to scale it down (Commuter Nightmare, News Shopper, August 9). We are already losing too many playing fields and other green spaces to development in London, so it makes much more sense to build on existing car parks and other brownfield spaces. I appreciate many of the people who currently use the car park will have to plan ahead and change their travel habits. However, switching from a car to a very good public transport network is no great hardship. Most people travelling into central London or Docklands already make use of public transport and for those commuter journeys which are a bit tricky, they can always join the rapidly-growing number of cyclists in London.
