REGARDING the articles and letters in your August 9 edition regarding parking and air- conditioning at the Princess Royal hospital.

It is necessary for us to charge for parking in order to ensure the spaces at the hospital remain available for those using our services.

Free parking would enable people with business elsewhere to use our car park, thereby blocking valuable spaces.

Any surplus made from the charges is put back directly into patient care.

We are sympathetic to patients who have to regularly attend our hospitals, and will shortly be launching a more flexible scheme.

The hospital was built on the basis natural light and air are considered beneficial to recovery from illness.

During the hot weather there are many fans in operation, and the windows on the south-facing side of the building have been lined with sun protection film.

The hospital has a 30-year contract to ensure the equipment remains up-to-date with current technological advances.

We endeavour to make the most of these resources for the benefit of Bromley residents.
