TO THE young idiot I saw riding his motorcycle up White Horse Hill, Chislehurst, while having his hands apparently behind his back.

Sonny, perhaps you thought you were being clever.

Perhaps they were your friends riding a little way behind you and you thought to impress them.

But let me assure you, it is impossible to be clever and stupid at the same time, and if you think it is anything other than stupid to drive a vehicle while not having control of it, then here is my suggestion:

Go to bed tonight, and before you go to sleep, consider how long would it take you, in an emergency - say your little sister or your gran stepping into the road, or just your bike being thrown off balance by a bump or pothole - to get your hands round to the front, shift your stance forwards, grab hold of the handlebars, bring the bike under control, and brake it to a stop?

When you have thought carefully about all that, go to sleep.

If, the next morning, you still think you could manage all that in time to avoid a catastrophe, then I suggest while you are still able to move of your own volition, you take yourself off to the nearest accident and emergency unit, and have a talk to the people there.
