There have been a number of articles recently about the mosque in Gravesend and I am pleased papers are showing the useful work which the Muslim community does in Gravesham.

Quite often, in these days of Islamic-phobia, things are written which have no resemblance to reality.

The present problem of young Muslim men born in this country attempting to kill or maim innocent people in the name of a twisted cause is not a reflection of Islam nor more importantly is it the problem of Muslims.

When the racist bomber who killed innocent people in a Soho pub and Brixton market was committing his crimes, there wasn't a consensus of blame on the white community.

This threat is a problem we all share and therefore we must address this problem together.

We must not try and shoulder the burden of responsibility on to the Muslim community.

This will encourage even more segregation and alienation for disaffected young men form within this community.

Muslim people are involved in all aspects of our lives and we trust them working as doctors, health workers, teachers, lawyers, shop workers and just about every king of co-worker.

If we keep insisting this threat facing us is a Muslim problem then we create a community in isolation rather than promoting a closer integrated community where there is understanding and acceptance.

Carry on the good work - keep showing us the positive side to Islam - and help support the Muslims within our community.
