THE latest court sentences imposed upon the riotous teenagers in Welling covered by various stories in News Shopper will certainly have a reassuring effect among law-abiding citizens in our community.
However, such just sentencing falls short to explain why a minority of youngsters in Bexley are so vicious and violent towards each other and occasionally against adults.
Two central questions have so far remained unanswered: l Do these children suffer from some mental disorder and, as such, should be receiving treatment in psychiatric institutions?
l Or is their violent behaviour just the end result of poor parenting or educational failure?
Are they are themselves victims of an adult society which could not care less what is happening to them?
Could it be this is how the political establishment in Britain wants working class youth of today to act?
Does the Government want these people in self-destructive mode - instead of being democratically participants in our society, challenging injustices and abuse of power?
