TIME TO ACT: Chris Godfrey raised a valid point in his letter about pub closures (Shame Good Pubs Are Having To Close, News Shopper, August 2). Such buildings create an eyesore if they are abandoned for long periods. They also become easy targets for graffiti artists, flytippers and squatters. Derelict buildings are now blighting our area. Aside from the Green Man and the Tiger's Head, there is the Courts store in Bromley Road, the old Teasel pub in Burnt Ash Lane and the BP petrol station in Plaistow Lane. Surely it is about time the council took some action.

THANKS: I would like to congratulate all concerned in the fight over the proposals to build inappropriate homes on the Montbelle Road school site. It is about time developers were put in their place. Their only concern is profit. I do not know who had the most influence over the decision but thanks to you all.
