THE Government keeps telling us to conserve energy.

So why is it doing nothing about making it mandatory to build new buildings which conserve energy?

All flats and luxury apartments seem to have bathrooms and toilets which rely on electric extractor fans and having lights on whenever they are used. They have no windows in bathrooms and WCs.

Kitchens are now also being built as part of a living space, again leading to fewer windows and a need for extractor fans and extra lighting.

What about all the shopping malls being built or expanded which have no energy-saving features?

Lewisham has a new school and a new adult education building in Granville Park. What energy-saving features do they have?

We have new trains in Kent. Sadly they have more standing room and fewer seats than the old trains and the designers forgot when one has to stand it helps to hold onto a rail or a strap.

And where have all the waiting rooms and clean WCs in every train station gone?

As for the buses, they are filthy, with not enough seating, and bus stops are appalling.

If the Government was genuinely committed to conserving energy and resources, conservation would be a reality rather than just spin.
