REGARDING the story Councillor Gets Shirty With Topless By-law (News Shopper, August 2). Councillor Nicholas Bennett complains of "shaven-headed tattooed men sitting next to women in the shopping centre".

Retail outlets already have the power to refuse to serve topless men.

There is already a ban on topless people in The Glades shopping centre, which nevertheless seems to be observed.

Extending this ban to parks and streets in Bromley will have the advantage of giving our over-manned police force something to do with all their spare time.

Will the police carry anti-perspirant instead of CS gas?

Does the councillor intend to also ban shaved heads and tattoos? Is there anything else he does not like?

Perhaps he would like to show solidarity with Chairman Mao and have everyone wear true-blue boiler suits.

Or does he agree with the Taliban and want to enforce the total covering of the human body-including the face - for both women and men, in the spirit of equality?

The Councillor's proposal also flies in the face of the Conservative doctrine of less, rather than more, law. I would be interested to hear David Cameron's views on this proposal.
