TOMORROW sees the Football League season get under way but how will our three sides get on?

Charlton have endured a traumatic summer after failing to win promotion at the first attempt ensured manager Phil Parkinson saw the break-up of his squad from last year.

The Addicks had one of the biggest wage bills in League One but that was never sustainable in the long-term and they have had to cut their cloth accordingly.

Out have gone the likes of Nicky Bailey, Lloyd Sam, Deon Burton, Frazer Richardson, Sam Sodje and David Mooney.

Parkinson has tried his best to bring players in and the captures of Gary Doherty, striker Pawel Abbott and the return of Kyel Reid, this time on a permanent deal from Sheffield United, are to be welcomed.

However, the squad still looks quite threadbare at the minute and despite this being a weaker division than last year, there has to be a major question mark over whether Charlton can challenge for automatic promotion.

There is still a few weeks to go until the transfer window closes and if Parky can get the right people in before then, there is no reason why a repeat of last season’s play-off placing can’t be matched.

Millwall are back in the Championship for the first time in four years and it will be interesting to see how they fare.

Kenny Jackett has decided to give last season’s squad the chance to show what they can do at this level but things will certainly be much tougher for them.

The Lions haven’t had the best of pre-seasons and the loss of summer signing Shaun Batt through injury for the remainder of the campaign is a major blow.

It is vital Millwall are able to maintain their outstanding home form from last year and this could prove the key to where they finish.

The optimists will point to what Blackpool achieved last year but more realistically a mid-table finish would be no bad thing for Jackett’s side.

Crystal Palace are probably still thankful to still be in business and out of administration but they have to put that behind them quickly and concentrate solely on matters on the pitch from now on.

The appointment of George Burley is a shrewd one by the club’s new owners but it may take a bit of time for the new boss to get the best from his squad.

He has already made several new signings, although there have also been a few members of last year’s side who have moved on as well.

Palace have struggled for goals this pre-season and although the decision of last season’s top scorer Darren Ambrose to stay is welcomed, it is asking a lot to expect him to match what he achieved last time around.

If Burley can solve the striker problem before the window opens, I reckon the Eagles may have an outside chance of the play-offs.
