REGARDING the letter Buses Should Have Seat Belts Installed (News Shopper, April 5).
This is a great idea but who would wear one?
Bus drivers are surrounded by more health and safety regulations imaginable.
Would the driver have to check all passengers are wearing seat belts at each stop?
If so, how often would the driver be assaulted for insisting a belt is worn?
How many passengers remain seated until the bus has halted at a bus stop?
Most passengers will be standing long before the bus has started to slow, let alone stop not a good time to leave your seat.
As buses have very slow acceleration, maybe more rear facing seats for the elderly would be a good idea and almost certainly would have prevented Mrs Botten's injury?
